Njammies Quick Answers – Fruit

Real fruit has a story of its own.

Fruit brings its own colour, flavour, aroma, texture and natural sweetness to Njammies. We use it fresh, blended or dried, depending on what we're making.

And because fruit is grown rather than manufactured, it won't always look or taste exactly the same. Seasons, varieties and ripeness all get a little say.

Fruit Quick Answers

What do we mean by 100% real fruit?

Exactly that — fruit. We don't add sugar, preservatives, artificial colours or artificial flavours to our dried fruit. What you see, taste and smell comes from the fruit itself.

Does fruit contain sugar naturally?

Yes. Fruit naturally contains sugars — they're part of the fruit itself. When fruit is dried, much of its water is removed, so its natural sweetness and flavour become more concentrated. We don't need to add sugar to our dried fruit; the fruit brings its own.

Is dried fruit the same as fresh fruit?

It starts with fresh fruit, but drying changes it. As moisture is removed, the fruit becomes smaller and its flavour and natural sweetness become more concentrated. The texture changes too — depending on the fruit, it may become crisp, chewy or leathery.

Why can the colour and flavour change?

Fruit isn't made to a colour chart. Its variety, ripeness and season can all affect its colour, sweetness and flavour. Drying can deepen or change the colour too, so one batch may look or taste a little different from the next. That's simply part of working with real fruit.

Why does dried fruit change texture after opening?

Dried fruit naturally reacts to moisture in the air. It may be quite crisp when first opened and gradually become softer or more leathery, especially in humid weather. Keeping the packet well sealed or using an airtight container helps protect its texture.

Why does our fruit selection change with the seasons?

We work with fruit that's available to us, and that naturally changes through the year. Some favourites may disappear for a while, while something else comes into season and joins the mix. That's why packs such as our Fruit Medley may not contain exactly the same fruits every time — there's always a little room for the season to have its say.
